King Meng Rai found Chiang Rai in 1804 BE and he was the first king on the throne

King Meng Rai also found Wiang Kumkam in 1829 BE (currently Amphur Saraphi a district of Chiang Mai) King Meng Rai also found Chiang Mai in 1834 BE

As the history of the city said, King Meng Rai follow the lost elephant and came up to this hill (Doi Ngam Muang) and found the land of this area suitable for build a city, therefore, the city had been build on the Kok riverside and named Chiang Rai (Chiang Rai City or the City of Rai)

After his father which rule Chiang Saen city at time has died King Meng Rai relocated the city from Chiang Saen to Chiang Rai and was the first king to rule Chiang Rai in 1805 ED

Wat Phra Kaew or as native Chiang Rai called "Wat Pa Yiah" or wild (yellow) bamboo

One day the cement that covers the Buddha broken off and found the Emerald Buddha inside. Currently the Emerald Buddha display in Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok

Wat Klang Wiang is one of the old temple build around 600 years ago called Wat Chan Ta Loke. The last city survey found the center of the city located in Wat Klang Wiang, therefore, the City Pillar has been settle in Wat Klang Wiang

Wat Ming Muang (The temple for the auspicious of the city) ; one of the old temple found in the early time when the city was build, the original named was Wat Jang Moob (Crouched Chang)

• From Night Bazaar or bus terminal 1 – go eastward one block then go north 200 meters

Chiang Rai have plenty of transportations to serves the need, whether travel around town or between districts, Chiang Rai got it.

Chiang Rai also have international airport and international bus, you can get an airline or a bus out to other provinces or other country as well.
