The History of Chiang Rai Flowers Festival

Chiang Rai Flowers Festival started out in the year 2004 and 2005 in the form of backyard decorations and orchids show and contests in the area of The Golden Jubilee Public Park.

The Provincial Administration Mrs. Rattana Jongsuthanamanee were looking for something to attracts tourists to Chiang Rai at the time Chiang Rai don’t have much to draw tourists interest, that’s when the Chiang Rai Flowers Festival has come to mind.

Chiang Rai Flowers Festival start to take shape as seen today begins in the year 2006, the 3rd Annual Chiang Flowers Festival where the show located on the riverside of Hat Chiang Rai (Chiang Rai Beach)

While the International Horticulture Exposition in Chiang Mai going on Chiang Rai put on the show in smaller scale, nevertheless many hard to find flowers for tropical weather such as tulips and many other flowers are on display were actually can be found in Chiang Rai province.

The flowers show was on national televise and has attracts tourists to Chiang Rai

The big success of Chiang Rai Flowers Festival was on the 4th show, the flowers display was in full scale with more hard-to-find flowers on display, also increase performance on the stage show - the music and the beauty contest, and the cultural are always part of the festivity.

The 5th Chiang Rai Flowers Festival also in the same area the festivity has drawn more tourists to Chiang Rai more than a million, the festivity’s area getting too small and the roads for get into and out are too narrow to accommodate the large crowd of travelers, that’s where the 6th flowers festival has been relocated to the new location, a public park on the Kok riverside near the new provincial administration office.

The 7th and 8th flowers festival are also displayed in the same area, but not the 9th

Not the new provincial administration nor the municipality call the flowers festival “the 9th annual”

The Chiang Rai Flowers Festival had ended after the 8th annual, Mrs. Rattana did not get elected as provincial administration, and the new administration Mrs. Slukjit Tiyapairat did continue flowers festival in the same area but called Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower festival.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Rattana became an advisory for Mr. Wanchai Jongsuthanamanee (her husband) which is the mayor of municipality at time, the flowers festival continue under the name Chiang Rai Municipal Flowers Festival, not the 9th flowers festival either (perhaps, she thought Mrs. Slukjit might want to continue Chiang Rai Flowers Festival)

The 10th, 11th and now 12th flowers festival are also on display in the same area called Suan Tung located in the heart of the Chiang Rai Muang district.

Chiang Rai Flowers Festival and Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival are open to the public free of charge including free parking

ประวัติงานเชียงรายดอกไม้งาม

เชียงรายดอกไม้งามแรกเริ่มในปี 2547 - 2548 ที่บริเวณสวนสาธารณะฉลองสิริราชสมบัติครบรอบ 50 ปี ในรูปแบบของการโชว์และประกวดกล้วยไม้ การจัดสวนไม้ประดับ การประกวด "บายสี" และการแสดงพื้นเมือง

แต่ก็เป็นแค่ดึงดูดฝูงชนในเมืองเท่านั้น ไม่เป็นไปตามที่นางรัตนา จงสุทธนามณี นายก อ.บ.จ. (องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัด) ต้องการให้เป็นการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยว มีนักท่องเที่ยวมาเที่ยวเชียงรายมากขึ้น

งานเชียงรายดอกไม้งามเริ่มเป็นรูปเป็นร่างอย่างที่เห็นทุกวันนี้เริ่มเมื่อปี 2549 หรืองานเชียงรายดอกไม้งามครั้งที่ 3 ซึ่งจัดที่บริเวณหาดเชียงรายริมน้ำกก ซึ่งเป็นปีเดียวกันกับงานพื้ชสวนโลกที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ที่มีการจัดขึ้นในปี 2549 ต่อเนื่องถึงปี 2550 นักท่องเที่ยวที่ไปเชียงใหม่ก็แวะมาชมงานดอกไม้ที่เชียงราย และก็ไม่ผิดหวังเพราะเชียงราย ดอกไม้งามมีการจัดดอกไม้สวยงามหลากหลายชนิดรวมทั้งดอก ทิวลิป ที่นำมาจากโครงการเกษตรที่สูงบนดอยผาหม่น ในจังหวัดเชียงรายนี่เอง การแสดงพื้นเมืองที่ขาดไม่ได้ และ รวมทั้งการจัดให้ชมวิถีชีวิตของคนไทยภูเขาในบริเวณ "บ่วงวัฒนธรรม" นอกจากนี้ก็ยังมีการจัดขบวนแห่รถบุปผชาติไปที่งานอีกด้วย

ผลงานของ นางรัตนา จากการจัดงานเชียงรายดอกไม้งามครั้งที่ 3 นับว่าเป็นความสำเร็จในระดับหนึ่ง ตามมาด้วยครั้งที่ 4 และ 5 ที่บริเวณริมน้ำกกหาดเชียงราย ซึ่งมีนักท่องเที่ยวเข้าชมจำนวนมากขึ้น ๆ ทำให้บริเวณงานเล็กเกินไป ทางเข้าออกแคบเกินไปไม่สดวกต่อการเดินทาง และที่จอดรถก็ไม่เพียงพอ

งานเชียงรายดอกไม้งามครั้งที่ 6 จึงได้ย้ายมาจัดที่ "สวนไม้งามริมกก" ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่ของ อบจ. และครั้งที่ 7 และ 8 ก็จัดที่นี่ มีนักท่องเที่ยวทั้งไทยและชาวต่างชาติเข้าชมมากกว่า 1.2 ล้านคน นับว่าเป็นความสำเร็จในการดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวให้มาเที่ยวเชียงราย

หลังจากงานเชียงรายดอกไม้งามครั้งที่ 8 นายกฯ รัตนา ไม่ได้รับเลือกเป็น อบจ. สมัยที่ 3, งานเชียงรายดอกไม้งาม ก็ เป็นอันสิ้นสุดไป นายกอบจ. คนใหม่ นางสลักจฤฏดิ์ ติยะไพรัช จัดงานดอกไม้ต่อ แต่ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นงาน "ไม้ดอกอาเซี่ยน" มีการจัดงานดอกไม้ในเชิง ดอกไม้นานาชาติของอาเซี่ยนเพื่อต้อนรับการเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซี่ยน

ส่วนนางรัตนาได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นที่ปรึกษานายกเทศมนตรีนครเชียงรายซึ่งมีนายวันชัย จงสุทธนามณี (สามี) ซึ่งได้รับเลือก เป็น นายกเทศมนตรีนครเชียงรายสมัยที่ 3 (หลังจากเว้นวรรคไปสี่ปี) นางรัตนาได้สานต่องานเชียงรายดอกไม้งามซึ่งจัดขึ้นที่ "สวนตุงและโคม" ครั้งที่ 9 แต่ไม่เรียกว่า ครั้งที่ 9 (คาดว่า อบจ.คนใหม่อาจสานต่อ) แต่ได้ใช้ชื่องานดอกไม้ที่จัดให้มีขึ้นในบริเวณสวนตุงว่า “นครเชียงรายดอกไม้งาม”
เมื่อ อบจ. นางสลักจฤฏดิ์ ไม่ได้สานต่อ นางรัตนาจึงได้สานต่อ เชียงรายดอกไม้งาม ครั้งที่ 10 และ 11 ในงานมีการแสดงดอกไม้สวยงามแปลกตาและมีการแสดงดนตรีในสวน เปิดให้เข้าชมฟรีเป็นเวลา นานกว่าสองเดือน และครั้งที่ 12 ก็มีให้ชม ตั้งแต่วันที่ 23 ธันวาคม 2558 ถึง 14 กุมภาพันธ์ 2559

งานเชียงรายดอกไม้งาม และงานไม้ดอกอาเซี่ยน ไม่มีการเก็บค่าผ่านประตู รวมทั้งที่จอดรถก็บริการฟรี
